Offshore fishing out of Morehead City is heating up as spring continues to bring in ideal water temperatures and increased bait activity. Anglers heading out beyond the Gulf Stream are finding solid action with Bluefin Tuna still making appearances, especially during early morning hours. Trolling ballyhoo and using topwater poppers have proven effective for targeting larger fish. Mahi Mahi and King Mackerel are showing up in better numbers along temperature breaks and weed lines, making for exciting runs and steady bites. Anglers fishing the ledges are also reporting Wahoo hookups, especially when working high-speed trolling rigs in deeper water. Bottom fishing has remained productive too, with anglers landing Black Sea Bass, Grunt, and the occasional Snowy Grouper around the deeper wrecks and rocky structures. Dropping cut bait and squid has produced consistent results. The weather has been cooperative, with calm seas and clear skies most days—perfect conditions for a smooth ride offshore. Today's trip out of Morehead City was a blast! We hit the water aiming for Spanish mackerel, and boy, did we hit the jackpot. The weather was perfect, and the mackerel were biting like crazy. Everyone on board reeled in some beauties, and we had a ton of fun doing it.
